Previous positions.- Fellowships: Pre-doc (FPI) and post-doc (F. March) at CSIC (Spanish Research Council), Madrid, 1968-72. Professor (different degrees from assistant to full Prof.) successively: Complutense University- Madrid (1971-76), Murcia University (1976-79), Santiago University (1979-80).
Research experience.- Transport and metabolism of sugars in Streptomyces - Protein synthesis in vivo and in vitro (plants and microorganisms) - Nitrogen metabolism during seed germination - Photophosphorylation - Ion uptake by plants - Leaf proteins - Plant senescence – Photooxidative stress - Photosynthetic Electron Transport - Chloroplast genome structure and expression - Thermodynamics basis of biological evolution.
Actual research interest.- Genetic machinery of chloroplasts - Molecular mechanisms of plant senescence - Molecular mechanisms of stress responses – Regulation of photosynthetic electron transport
Publications.- 102 original research papers, 23 contributions to books and review articles (among them a 12 editions text-book), 3 patents, about 130 communications to congresses.
